My Eventual Objectives

<Intimacy>
Jinwoo An, 2025
<V-J Day in Times Square>
Alfred Eisenstaedt, 1945
In my view, intimacy is one of the most significant virtues living these days. Advanced technologies, such as internet, are occurring individualization and fragmentation of contemporary society. In this context, intimacy—loving ourselves, each other, and eventually the society—can restore a sense of social cohesion and reunite us. I believe photojournalism is the key to reach intimacy, since iconic photos such as <V-J Day in Times Square> by Alfred Eisenstaedt brought a sensational effect delivering those kind of emotions. On a broader level, delivering emotions via photojournalism can ignite individual's emotions and form empathy, the basis of intimacy. I aspire to pursue work that documents human lives with emotional precision and ethical seriousness—work that not only records reality, but also reconnects people to one another through recognition, compassion, and shared feeling.
